“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.” 1 John 3:1
Sometimes we need to pause and simply let this truth sink in: We are God’s children.
Not because we earned it. Not because we were good enough. But because of the Father’s great love. It’s the kind of love that reaches down, pulls us close, and redefines who we are. It’s not shallow, distant affection. It’s the adopting, welcoming, life-shaping love of God. Through faith in Christ, we belong to God and He calls us His own.
John doesn’t just tell us we’re loved, he tells us to look at it: “See how very much our Father loves us.” It’s meant to be noticed, marveled at, and cherished. To reflect on it.
You may not get applause or recognition for being a child of God. In fact, it might make you feel out of place. But heaven knows your name. And the Father calls you His own. Comprehension of this truth inspires peace and assurance.
You are not just tolerated. You are wanted.
You are not just saved. You are loved.
You are not just invited. You belong.
Of all the images God could have chosen, this one is so tender. A loving parent would do anything for their child—to protect them, guide them, give them what’s best. And that’s how God sees us. He calls us His children.
So, take a moment today, not to strive or achieve or earn, but simply be His child and see how very much the Father loves you.
Rest in it. Rejoice in it. Let it shape the way you see yourself and everything else. Ask your Heavenly Father to illuminate this great truth within you.
