Fear Not

“The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalm 27:1

This is going to sound funny, but many children in their younger years had a fear of the dark.  One of my friends struggled with “the boogie man.” A good way to describe fear can be “an uneasiness or anxiety about what could happen.” These fears range from: noise, touch, power, gross, smelly, death, pain, and even adding several of these together.  All too often we play the “Why Me” card and “I Don’t Deserve This” card.  When we have fears, we need a strong hold, something of substance, something with power to be with us.

In this Psalm David is communicating that in his life situation, he was choosing the Lord.  Why? Because he was in a “dark place” and he needed light.  David chose light.  This light was stronger than darkness.

All too often we focus on the enemy, we focus on the darkness.  Let’ not miss the powerful light of Jesus, who is so much stronger than the darkness.  And he is not just our light in the present situations, but he is our light for eternity – for the salvation of our souls.  His light brings strength and power, not in small ways, but an ultimate light where we cannot be defeated.  This means we have nothing to fear.
