Awakened by the Light

“For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.” —1 Thessalonians 5:5 (NLT)

Paul reminds us that we are children of the light. Because of this, we are called to live with spiritual alertness, not spiritual drowsiness. Darkness belongs to those who are spiritually asleep, indifferent, or caught up in deeds that do not reflect God the heart and will of God. But for those who belong to Christ, the light changes everything.

I think back to childhood mornings on Christmas Day. No one had to shake me awake. The joy and anticipation of that day had me springing out of bed with wide eyes and a full heart. There was a jolt of excitement that no other morning could produce. No alarm clock needed.

In the same way, the presence—not the presents—of Christ should awaken us like no other. His love, His grace, and His nearness bring a spark of joy that shakes us out of complacency. Spiritual lethargy has no place in the life of those who belong to the day.

Christ awakens us. He calls us to walk in the light, to stay spiritually alert, and to live in eager expectation of His return. Just as morning sunlight floods a dark room, His presence floods our hearts with life, purpose, and clarity.

So let us rise each day as children of the light—wide awake, ready, and eager to walk with Him.
