Isaiah 45:9: “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but shards of pottery amongst the shards on the ground. Does the clay say to the Potter, ‘What are you making?’
Everywhere I look I see so much broken pottery. I am brokenhearted to see so many who choose to question the Potter, and put the clay ahead of the Creator.
Maybe you aren’t fully broken, maybe you’re “just” slightly cracked. Maybe you’ve “just” been through the rough and tumble life that this world throws at all of us, and so you’ve accepted all the chips and crackling that you’ve accumulated.
Hearts can be broken; by abuse, neglect, contempt and so much more. Maybe broken by spouses, children, siblings, parents, friends or even strangers. Hearts are as fragile as those clay pots.
The good news is that we don’t need to carry the chips and cracks we’ve accumulated, at least we don’t need to carry them alone. Our Maker, the Maker of the universe, stands ready to repair and replace out brokenness. God is the Redeemer, but He is also the Healer. He is that master Potter who can take what the world has broken, even shattered, and make it new. Maybe more important is that He desperately wants to make it all new, to fully restore us, better than new.
My prayer for all of us is that we be encouraged to observe how God has worked in so many lives to renew them. Whether from scripture, like King David or the Apostle Paul, or from the world around us as we observe brothers and sisters in Christ who have new lives in Him. No matter where we draw encouragement from, God is able, more than able, to not only make us what as snow, but He is able to make our heart better than new. He wants to see His creation flourish, and to know the joy unspeakable.
God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.
