Let’s suppose that you witness a shooting,
and opt to keep your mouth shut.
And then the police department asks
that if anyone has information on the incident,
please call this number: 1-800-WITNESS.
Leviticus 5.1 speaks to us about this very matter:
“If anyone sins in that he hears a public adjuration to testify,
and though he is a witness,
whether he has seen or come to know the matter,
yet does not speak, he shall bear his iniquity…”
So, if you have seen, heard, or experienced something,
and there is request that you speak out as a witness,
and you don’t…
You are committing iniquity.
God calls His people to stand for truth, not shrink from it. Silence in the face of wrongdoing may feel safer, but it is not righteous. To withhold truth when justice cries out is to align ourselves with deception. Speak what is right, even when it costs you.
