Celebrating God’s Goodness

You’ve probably heard the expression, “Out of the mouths of babes.” My 3-year-old daughter teaches me something most days. Time and time and again, I hear God speak truth to my heart through her life.

The other day we were outside in our backyard, and I heard her exclaim, “Daddy! Daddy! A snail! A snail! Come look! Wow!” The wonder in her voice and the amazement in her eyes was so joyful and innocent. An ordinary backyard snail was enough to fill her with delight and produce awe.

The book of Genesis tells us repeatedly that God created and it was good. He made the plants, the sky, the animals and it was good. He made the world, and even in its current state of brokenness, it still bears the marks of His goodness. Psalm 19:1 tells us, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

In a world that so easily pushes us toward cynicism and criticism, sometimes it takes the eyes of a child to remind us what is still true: God’s creation is good. His world, though marred, is still full of beauty and wonder. Even the smallest snail can become a reason to praise.

Prayer:
Lord, give me eyes to see Your goodness and fingerprints on creation today. Open my heart to wonder, even in the small and ordinary things. Help me not to overlook the beauty that still speaks of Your love and glory. Thank You for reminders, both big and small, that You are the Creator and Giver of all that is good. Amen.
