“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
It is easy to believe that only what we can touch, see, or measure is real. But faith invites us to see differently. A blind person must trust that stars exist, even though they have never seen them. We believe in gravity, though we cannot see it—only its effects. We trust in the existence of other minds, though we cannot peer into anyone’s thoughts. We accept the reality of historical events we never witnessed based on the credibility of the sources and the weight of the evidence. No one has ever seen justice, love, or meaning under a microscope, yet we live as if they are real and essential.
I remember being 20 years old when the unseen world suddenly became undeniable. Through a series of powerful spiritual encounters, including a manifest demonic presence, my assumptions about reality were profoundly shaken. It may sound strange in our modern world where spiritual beings are often treated as myth. But the Bible tells a different story. It speaks clearly of a world beyond what we can see, a world just as real as our own.
Once your eyes are opened to that reality, you cannot go back. You begin to live with eternity in view. The physical world still matters, but it is no longer the full picture. You start to think, act, and hope differently. The things that seemed so urgent or impressive begin to fade, and the eternal becomes more real than ever.
God, open our eyes to see beyond the surface. Help us live not merely by sight, but by faith in what your word reveals. Let us fix our gaze on you and live this day eternally.
