Thank God For Rest

by Barbara Zumwalt on March 11, 2024

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”  Psalm 23:2

We can and should seek ways to serve God. It is a requirement as well as a responsive outpouring of gratitude to a wonderful God who saved us.

It can lead to purpose-filled lives.

But there are times, too, when we forget to rest, mistaking business with that purpose and heading toward burnout or collapse.

If we don’t CHOOSE to slow down, God, in His mercy, will bless us in other ways.

“He MAKES me lie down in green pastures.”

Clearly, even rest is something we don’t always do willingly.

Sometimes, in our zeal for the Lord, we rush from one noble cause to another, forgetting that rest and taking the time to listen to our Shepherd are also part of God’s work.

If you take the time to rest, wonderful. But if God MAKES you take a break, rejoice in that, too.

Our Good Shepherd really does know what is best for us.
