I am going to grab my King Jimmy (a.k.a. Kings James Version) for verse 14, he shoots really straight.
As obedient children,
not fashioning yourselves
according to the former lusts
in your ignorance…
I hope I qualify for those first three words,
“As obedient children.”
I am glad he did not say, “Those of you who are obedient children…” because then I would have to decide if what follows pertains to me or not. Perhaps I would not even read on.
I am comforted to know that those things I used to do when people thought I was one cool dude, I was doing in ignorance.
But now things are different.
I am not ignorant.
And I have both (1) the ability to make a decision and (2) the power within to bring that decision to full bloom,
to not fashion myself, with those old habits,
to not be conformed [ESV] to them,
to not let me be molded ugly [Marcos Standard Version].
No ignorance anymore.
No powerlessness anymore.
This is all so much cooler than before.
So, give yourself to this process. You won’t regret it!
