Blessed

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on April 05, 2024

When I was at the store the other day, I wound up passing a lady of 50 to 60 years of age going down the aisle in the opposite direction.

She said “Hello” and I said “Hello, how are you?” She replied, “I’m blessed.” So, I said “I’m blessed, too.”

She whirled around and said, “What did you say?” I said, “I am blessed, too.” She grabbed my arm and said, “We’re in church!” I said, “Wherever two or more are gathered in His name, I am in your midst…” She said, “We’re in church here in Food Maxx (We were in Food4Less but who’s counting).” She went on to say, “If anyone asks if you went to church you can say ‘I had fellowship at Food Maxx.” We both went on our way truly blessed.

When I told this story in my Sunday School class, a classmate made the point that it was wonderful that we can worship in public without fear of persecution. Praise the Lord!

This was a nice reminder that we worship God in Spirit and in truth, wherever we go. And as believers, we have a lot in common, even if we have never met. We share the same Lord, the same eternal destination, the same Father in Heaven, the same sacrifice of Christ through whom we are saved. It is a blessing when we can have fellowship with the larger family of faith wherever we go because we belong to Christ. Part of God’s blessing to us in Christ is our brothers and sisters in Christ.
